A Tribute to our Mom…

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Cora Ann Patricia (Pat) Knuttila announce her passing, on the evening of July 18, 2017 at the age of 69 years.  She was very much at peace.  Mom will be lovingly remembered by us, her children- Jacquolyn, Cora(LeRoy), Amelia(Andy), Jacob(Gemma), Patricia(Mark) and Alfred; her grandchildren- Damion, Tyler, Seth, Chelsea, Kara, Jacob, Johnathan, Eva, Gared and Maggie; her two sisters, Linda and Mary and one brother, Wayne; her many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and many, many others who were like family to her; and by all her cherished friends.    Mom was predeceased in 1999 by her husband Wilho(Wilf) of 34 years; by her parents, Alan and Irene Gillis; her daughter, Victoria; her siblings Earl, Roy, Kathy, Carol and Tom.

It touched our hearts to know that she meant so much to so many of you.  We received so many words of remembrance and encouragement from our family and friends; we have used some of these words in our tribute.  Our mom is lovingly remembered as a kind, non-judgemental woman with a sweet and gentle manner.  She was a selfless person with such a big heart.  She was a mom, a grandma, a sister, a friend to anyone who needed her, and we were so proud to share her.   She took our friends and others under her wing when they needed it, playing a huge role in their lives.  She meant the world to many.

She had a beautiful smile; this was passed on to us by several people; some who knew her well, and others that just remember that about her.  She was happiest when her family was together with her, especially her grandchildren.  She would sit and watch them with the most serene look on her face.  Even in her last months, a grandchild’s gentle kiss on the cheek or holding her hand would make her shine with happiness and peace.

Mom spent the last three years at Eston Jubilee Lodge.  There are no words meaningful enough to express our gratitude with all of you that cared for mom.  You became her family when we couldn’t be there.  We will never forget the love and kindness you showed her while she was with you.  We cannot begin to thank you enough.

When mom started her final journey, we could see that she was at peace.  Although we were sad, we were reminded from a friend that there were amazing things in store for her, and that perhaps she had been given a glimpse of that.  When she did pass on, we were comforted to know that for the first time in a very long time, that she was not limited by her body or mind; and how wonderful that would be for her; free from confusion, pain and sadness… “Gramma will be Gramma again.”  She will be reunited with Dad, all her family and friends who have gone before here, enjoying the choir of angels.

To end, a poem that Mom would have liked to share:

Miss me but let me go…

When I came to the end of the day,

And the sun has set for me,

I want no rites in a gloom filled room,

Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little, but not too long,

And not with your head held low.

Remember the love we once shared,

Miss me, but let me go.

For this journey we must all take,

                                                And each must go alone.

It’s all a step in the maker’s plan,

A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart,

Go to the friends we know.

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds

Miss me, but let me go.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for sharing this day.  It means more to us than words can say.  God Bless!!
