Walter Franklyn (Mike) Forsyth October 8, 1959 – January 21, 2024
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of Mike Forsyth – loving husband and best friend, amazing father, son, brother, grandpa and papa – on January 21, 2024 in Kerrobert SK.
Mike was born October 8, 1959 to Alvin and Helen Forsyth in Hazelton, BC. Mike spent his younger years helping his father and brothers working in the logging industry. Mike was legendary in the logging industry for being the fastest loader in BC with a record time of 4 minutes to load a truck with long logs. He soon owned his own company with his brother Jim. We are proud of Mike’s commitment to being the best he could possibly be at anything he tried including team roping and a variety of rodeo events and in 1990 he was named the BCRA Most Improved Heeler. He decided to redirect his energy in 1999 and established an aluminum river boat business where he and his two boys built boats that found homes around the globe on worldclass steelhead and salmon rivers. He had a passion for fly fishing and steelhead guiding. Mike was so proud of his children Blane, John, Kristy and Rylee and always said that he taught them everything he knew. Mike enjoyed a passion for music and shared that love with everyone around him. At Christmas 2023 Mike recorded a song and shared it with his family. He enjoyed playing guitar, fiddle, and banjo and singing songs that he learned from his father and his father’s friends. Mike was an avid and learned participant in DNA and devoted many years to his family tree research. He shared his knowledge with everyone that asked and with the relatives he met through his research.
He married the love of his life on September 24, 2010 and moved to Kerrobert SK. While there he organized a milestone Forsyth Family Reunion demonstrating his commitment to family and family history. He spent countless hours at the golf course volunteering and working on the gardens with his wife. He loved his Labrador Retriever Jett and they spent many happy hours in the field hunting geese and spotting deer. He became well known for knowing exactly where he should be be during the magic hours of each day.
Mike will be profoundly missed by his wife Sharon, mother Helen, his brothers Karl (Cindy), Jim (Brenda) and John, sister Lorraine, his children Blane, John, Kristy, and Rylee, grandchildren Ashton, Hendrix, Peyton, Callie, Claire, Weston, Ben, Trayton, and Oliver and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. His loss is also felt by special brothers-in-laws Ron Kish and Doug Bloomfield, mother-in-law Lorraine Kish, and special friends Nelson Fritz and Lyall Knorr.
A Graveside Service will be held for Mike on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. from Biggar Memorial Gardens Cemetery, one mile south of Biggar on Hwy #4.
