Viola "Pearl" Martin Obituary

The family of Pearl Martin are saddened to announce the passing of their dear Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the age of 95 years at Heritage Manor in Kindersley, Saskatchewan.

Pearl was born on March 6, 1925 in Constantine, Cornwall, England.  She met Harold Martin of Lacadena, Saskatchewan who was stationed there during WWII.  They married January 16, 1946 in Cornwall and after the war was over, she came to Canada along with hundreds of other war brides and settled on the family farm at Lacadena and later moved to Elrose, Saskatchewan where she was employed at the Elrose Lodge.  Harold and Pearl raised 3 children, Judy, Wendy and Harry.

In 1969 she accepted the position of Matron at the Sunset Lodge in Kindersley, Saskatchewan where she was employed for 16 years.  After Sunset Lodge closed, she played a big part in fund raising activities for the building of Heritage Manor and had the honor of working there for another 3 years until her retirement in 1989.

Pearl was very active in the community.  She volunteered for many years for the Salvation Army Store, was a member of the Legion Auxilary, Heritage Manor Auxilary, Open Door volunteer, TOPS club and the Red Hatters.  She was so proud of receiving the honor of Kindersley Citizen of the Year in 1988.

She had many talents which included sewing, knitting and making stuffed bears to donate for charities and raffles, cake decorating and her beautiful bunka embroidery work just to name a few.  She made hundreds of blankets over the years with many made especially for the homeless and needy in Saskatoon.

She spent her life helping others and touched many lives over the years through her work and acts of kindness.  She was a truly gracious proper English lady who was well known for her beautiful hats and sense of style and loved and was loved by all who knew her.

Pearl was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1997 and two sisters Sylvia Ingram and Ruby Thomas both of Cornwall, England.  Left to mourn her passing are her children Judy (Bob) Duke of Calgary, Wendy (Mel) Sedgwick of Strathmore, & Harry (Jeanette) Martin of Kindersley, 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and her loving sister, Retta Ruse of Cornwall England.
