1922 ~ 2023 (age 100) 100 Years Old

Verna Mills Obituary

Verna Magdalene Morgan was born in the Kindersley Hospital April 22, 1922. She was the only daughter of Ernie and Maudie Morgan and sister to Charlie and Melvin. Verna was raised in Beadle where her parents owned and operated the general store and the post office. She attended public school in Beadle and high school in Kindersley and then returned to Beadle to clerk in the store and teach piano lessons.

September 21st, 1942, she was married to Allen Mills who enlisted in the R.C.A.F. After spending the war years stationed in eastern Canada, they returned to farm north of Beadle where they raised their 3 children Ronald, Linda, and Murray.

Verna was predeceased by her parents, brothers, husband, 2 sons, daughter and granddaughter.

Verna had fond memories of the Morgan Orchestra in the 20’s and 30’s and of sometimes joining them and others to play for dances throughout the years.

She was an ardent fan of her family members in their baseball and curling ventures.

She was a past matron and life member of the Eastern Star, receiving her 78th year membership certificate in 2018. She also was a 34-year member of Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Verna passed away peacefully on March 9, 2023,  at the age of 100 years.  She is survived by 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

There will be a Memorial Service held for Verna on April 22, 2023 at 1:00 pm from St. Paul's United Church, Kindersley, SK.  The Rev. Piotr Strzelecki will be officiating.  Everyone is welcome to join the family for coffee and dainties following the service.
