Thomas "Tom" McManus Obituary

Thomas James McManus of Kindersley, SK passed away on February 18, 2026.

Born in Eston, Saskatchewan on March 31, 1943, to Margaret and James, Tom spent his early years both on the family farm and in Kindersley carrying with him a lifelong appreciation for the Saskatchewan countryside and the beauty of the prairies.

After high school, Tom attended University of Saskatchewan School of Agriculture in Saskatoon.  After his studies, Tom returned home to farm.  For many years, he seeded, combined, and did all that was necessary with the determination, patience and resilience that farming requires.  He also owned and operated a mobile grain cleaning business, serving the surrounding farming community.  Later, Tom began working for Saskatchewan Crop Insurance as a claims adjuster known for his fairness and sound judgment.  In addition, Tom had his own painting business in Kindersley, specializing in home interiors.  With his precision and attention to detail, Tom was the go-to guy, treating every home with care and every job with pride.

Tom always found freedom on the open road.  Driving was never simply transportation to him, it was reflection, peace, and possibility.  He took road trips big and small throughout his life, often simply for the joy of the drive.

Music was always part of that journey. Tom loved what he proudly called “Country & Western.” His first concert was Johnny Cash in Saskatoon, a memory he carried with him always. He especially loved outlaw country, honky-tonk, bluegrass, and the one and only Patsy Cline.  He was thrilled to visit the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville in 2018 with Frances and family. Tom also had a particular fondness for classic cars, able to call out the year, make and model at a glance.   An avid reader, Tom averaged two to three books a week. Thousands of pages turned in thoughtful silence.

Above all, Tom was a family man. A devoted son, husband and father and a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart.  Tom’s unwavering love for his wife, Frances, was visible to everyone who knew them.

Tom was also a loyal friend sharing many good times, laughter, and celebrations over the years.  He was a longtime member of the Elks, Kinsmen, and Masons where he enjoyed supporting the community.

A man of few words, Tom was known by all as one of the kindest, most gentle souls. His deep voice and quiet humor were uniquely his. Though he did not seek attention, his presence filled a room with comfort.   Tom leaves behind a legacy of steadfast love and quiet strength.

For the last few years, Tom lived at Heritage Manor in Kindersley as he navigated life with Parkinson’s disease.  Suddenly unable to drive and no longer able to move through the world as he once had, it was a profound change, yet he accepted this chapter and made the best of it.  Tom, Frances, and family wish to express their appreciation for the outstanding care and support provided by the nurses and staff at Heritage Manor.

Tom will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his wife, Frances, his daughters Jennifer (Alan), Megan (Shaun) and Sarah (CD), his seven grandchildren Grace, Ben, Catherine, Lily, Keelee, Ty and Thomas, siblings, Jean, Brian and Elaine, extended family and the many friends whose lives were made better by knowing him.

A funeral service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held on March 14, 2026, at 2:00 pm at St. Paul’s United Church in Kindersley.
