Stella Lamont Obituary

Stella was born in Star City, Saskatchewan on May 27, 1928.She grew up on her family farm near Sylvania, the middle child in a family of eight girls and one boy. She stayed close with her siblings her entire life, and her very large family has wonderful memories of their many get-togethers in Tisdale and Hudson Bay.

Stella completed her Nurses training at the St. Therese Hospital and after graduating, moved to Kindersley for employment. She was shocked by the prairie after growing up in a forested area and really didn’t think she wanted to stay. However, as time passed in the coming months and years, Stella began making wonderful friends in the community and eventually fell in love with Ron Lamont and Kindersley became her home. She married Ron on June 2, 1954.

Stella worked at the Kindersley Hospital for several years and then decided it was time to raise a family. Kim arrived in 1956, Terry in 1960, and Leanne in 1962. She was a dedicated and loving mother and worked very hard in her community.

Stella taught Sunday School at St. Paul’s United Church, was a member of the Eastern Star and volunteered at functions with the UCW.  She helped out with the Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, and was a very dedicated volunteer for the Kindersley and District Music Festival. She loved to knit and crochet and was part of a knitting circle every Wednesday afternoon for many years.

When her children grew up, Stella went back to work at the Sunset Lodge. Stella had an amazing caring nature and her kindness and love was appreciated by many residents and their families for many years. Her favourite hobby was doll collecting. Over the years, Stella collected hundreds of dolls by attending auction sales, garage sales and antique stores. Her favourites were Eaton Beauty, Barbara Ann Scott, and Shirley Temple Dolls. She also loved collecting beautiful pieces of china, as well as glassware and Dionne Quintuplet Memorabilia.

Stella volunteered at the Salvation Army Thrift Store for many years and enjoyed her work with the wonderful staff and other volunteers.

A particularly enjoyed hobby was travelling. Stella went on several bus tours and train trips across North America. A highlight of her travels was when she was 80 and went on an Alaskan cruise with several family members.

Stella’s greatest joy in life was being a Grandma. She loved spending time with all of her grandchildren near and far, and they loved spending time with her.

In 2014, Stella’s health began to fail, and she eventually moved to Caleb Village and later moved to Heritage Manor where she resided until her passing on June 18, 2020. She passed peacefully with family by her side.

Stella is survived by her husband Ron, her sons Kim (Melody), Terry (Kim) and her daughter Leanne Dillman (Ray).

Cherished Grandmother of Evan, Kody, Rae-Ann (James), Benjamin (Susana), Andrew, Laura, and Nadia. Beloved great-grandmother of Aydon, Sahana, , Sawyer,  Maverick and Lancelot.

She is dearly missed by her sisters Ethel Herlen, Evelyn Harwood, Verlie Singbeil, her brother Murray Lyons (Sylvia), her brother-in-law Harold Singbeil and sister-in-law Betty Nelson.

Stella was predeceased by her infant son Wayne, parents George and Jean Lyons, and her sisters Olive, Irene, Rhoda, and Lorna.

Stella will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
