Simon Wirachowsky Obituary

Simon Carl Wirachowsky 1938 - 2026

88 Years Old

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Simon Wirachowsky. He passed away peacefully on June 1st, with his daughters by his side.

Born in Leipzig, Saskatchewan, he was the son of Anton and Katherine. Growing up on a farm, Simon developed a strong work ethic early on which he consistently demonstrated throughout his lifetime. After attending school in Leipzig and Tramping Lake, he worked on his family’s farm and neighbouring farms throughout his teenage years. He went on to complete his journeyman in the carpentry trade in 1962 and worked in that field for several years. He often spoke with pride about his involvement in building several hospitals in a variety of Saskatchewan communities. He moved to Kindersley while helping to build the Kindersley Union Hospital. He then went on to work as a mechanic at the Gulf Service Station completing his journeyman status in motor vehicle mechanics. He eventually went on to build a career as a highly respected farm equipment mechanic, working for many years with Jackson’s Sales and Service before becoming part owner in 1982. In 1990 he began working for J&B Equipment and retired from there in 2003.

In 1967, he married the love of his life, Isabel Kearns. Together, they had two daughters and shared almost 36 years of marriage. They built a wonderful life together in Kindersley, anchored in the importance of family, lifelong friends, volunteerism, as well as a strong commitment to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church community. He was a dedicated 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Together Simon and Isabel enjoyed family camping trips, having coffee with friends and attending curling events. Sadly, Isabel passed away in 2003. Simon valued the importance of maintaining close contact with his siblings, cousins and other extended family. Simon had a quiet, caring, demeanor and was a role model in all aspects of life. He was a loving dad that passed on the value of hard work while balancing family time. He was a proud grandpa. Erik and Liam are following in his footsteps by pursuing careers in heavy duty mechanics and carpentry & construction. Grace and Dylan have fond memories of their time playing crib and hearts with grandpa as well as bingo time at Caleb Village.

In 2005, he married Rosemarie and they spent time traveling and enjoying retired life with family and friends before her passing in 2019. In the fall of 2021, Simon moved into Caleb Village in Kindersley, where he enjoyed visiting with past acquaintances and friends. After over 55 years living in Kindersley, due to declining health, he moved to Saskatoon in 2024 where he remained until his passing.

Simon will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Karen (Jason) Humphreys and their sons; Erik (Sydney) and Liam; his daughter Connie (Kelly) Dennis and their daughter Grace and son Dylan; his sister Elizabeth (Betty); sisters-in-law Pat Wirachowsky, Doreen Wirachowsky, and Chris Kearns; brother-in-law Sid Kearns as well as many extended family members and friends.

Simon was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Katherine, his wife Isabel (2003), his wife Rosemarie (2019), siblings; Johanna, Arnold, Leo, Andrew, Leona and Adolf, sisters-in-law; Freda Wirachowsky, Florence Wirachowsky, Marge Matheson, Janette Kearns, brothers-in-law; Bud Job, Jack Job, Colin Matheson, Frank Kearns, nephew Darrell Job, and nieces; Catherine Job & Martha Job.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 9th at 10:30AM from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Kindersley, Saskatchewan. Prayers will be offered June 8th at 7:30PM. Simon will be laid to his eternal rest beside Isabel in the Kindersley Cemetery.
