There will be a private family memorial service at a later date.
Rob grew up on the family farm by Reward with two older sisters and one younger brother. Both of his parents came from families of 13, they were always surrounded by family. Rob often shared stories from his younger years where he fondly remembered the events he spoke of.
The Gerein family moved to Unity when Rob was in his late teens. He started working as a roofer and realized his love for carpentry which led him to complete the steps required to become a journeyman carpenter. As he was learning his trade he married and had three daughters. Rob’s work often followed the construction boom which brought him and his family to Kindersley in 1975. During his years there, Rob continued to expand his training in construction and completed his inter-provincial Red Seal General Contractor certification. Rob tried his hand at many things over the years: he drove taxi, worked as building maintenance at the Kindersley Inn and acquired certification as a massage therapist.
Rob was constantly full of smiles, a kind word and loved socializing. He always enjoyed a game of cards and was a formidable billiards player. He loved Johnny Cash music, dancing; especially a polka, and hunting was a lifelong passion. He frequently enjoyed the traditional dishes he grew up with, one of his favorites being sauerkraut and noodles.
He moved to Eatonia in 2013 where he spent his time gardening, baking, and spending time with family and friends. One of the highlights of this period in his life was attending both of his granddaughters’ graduations. He returned to Kindersley in 2023 where he quickly became a welcomed part of the Dawnview community, often enjoying billiards and card nights with the new friends he made there.
A private family service will be held in September on his 80th birthday, as a celebration of life which Rob had requested. His family will forever be grateful for the kindness and dedication of the homecare teams that assisted him with retaining his independence for so long and to the comfort care team who looked after him at the end.
