It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Norma Alma Darbyshire of Kindersley, Saskatchewan, formerly of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, on March 4, 2026, at the age of 92. Norma passed away peacefully at Heritage Manor, surrounded by the love and presence of her family.
Norma was born on January 14, 1934, in Coronach, Saskatchewan, one of six children born to Therese and Patrick Mondor. On August 1, 1957, she married Roy Darbyshire, and together they shared 63 years of marriage until his passing in 2020. They made their home in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, where they raised their two sons, Mitch and Scott, and built a life together filled with family and community.
Norma had a deep appreciation for beauty and creativity. She loved flowers and gardening, spending countless hours tending the beautiful backyard she and Roy created together. She also enjoyed bowling, painting, flower arranging, and reading. Norma and Roy worked side by side not only in their garden but also in building their home, creating a place that reflected their dedication and care. After Roy’s retirement, they spent many happy times at their cabin at Kipabiskau Lake, where Norma took joy in hosting family visits, especially time with her grandchildren. Some of her most treasured moments were spent around the fire roasting marshmallows, followed by long evening conversations and laughter with those she loved.
Norma was predeceased by her parents, Therese and Patrick Mondor, and her sisters Bertha Mondor, Vivian Hoskins, and Carmen Jacobsen. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Mitch of Kindersley, Saskatchewan, and Scott (Rhonda) of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; her grandchildren, Brianna (Frederich) Darbyshire, Tara (Dave) Darbyshire, Brett Darbyshire, Jordan (Janine) Darbyshire, Brenton (Amanda) Darbyshire, and Regan (Robert) Darbyshire; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Norman (Shirley) Mondor and sister Ella (Vern) Gauthier, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, on March 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Rite of Committal to follow. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Heritage Manor in Kindersley for the compassionate and loving care Norma received. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heritage Manor, whose kindness and support meant so much to Norma and her family.
