It is with love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, that our family announces the peaceful passing of Juanita “Apong” Macale at the age of 99 on October 4th, 2025, at the Kindersley Hospital with her loved ones by her side.
Juanita was born on June 26th, 1926, in the Philippines in the town of Bolinao, Pangasinan.
She became a widow at a young age and never remarried, dedicating her life entirely to her family. Known affectionately as “Apong,” she devoted her years to raising her grandchildren and, later, her great-grandchildren— always with patience, generosity, and deep affection. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Pacifico Macale Jr.; her parents, Juana and Policarpio Tamoro; her sisters, Rebecca and Rosa; and her great-granddaughter Dwine Rapadas. She is lovingly survived by her children Luz (Lino) and Pacifico “Boy” Jr.; her grandchildren Annabelle (Jayson), Raquel (Reden), Carmela, Edwin (Marzj), Christopher (Sunshine),and Joan and her honorary grandson, Roy; her great-grandchildren Allen (Nikki), Anika (Theo), Sophia (Absolon Jr.), Stephanie (Riley), Anjo, Joan, Edwin “Dadoy” Jr., and Amaya— as well as numerous friends and extended family members in both Canada and the Philippines.
Throughout her life, Juanita worked hard, weaving mats and caring for her grandchildren when their parents worked abroad. When her grandchildren moved to Hong Kong for work, she joined them, continuing her lifelong commitment to bring comfort and love to her family. She returned to the Philippines when her daughter Luz and son-in-law Lino retired, and later moved to Canada in September 2010, where she lived alongside her family in Drumheller, Alberta. Juanita eventually settled in Kindersley, Saskatchewan, in 2018, where she lived until her passing.
Juanita quickly made friends wherever she went. In Canada, she became known affectionately as “Grandma” to everyone who met her. She loved to look her best, always neatly dressed, wearing her favorite jewelry and a touch of makeup for every occasion. Her cheerful spirit and love for family gatherings made her the heart of every celebration. She especially looked forward to her annual birthday parties, which her family celebrated with joy and pride each year. Juanita was blessed to celebrate her 99th birthday in June 2025, surrounded by the people she loved most.
In her later years, Juanita found joy in simple pleasures: staying home, watching her favorite TV shows, and sharing cherished stories about her life and how she met her late husband. Those stories, told again and again, became part of the family’s most treasured memories. Her final months were spent at the Kindersley Hospital, where she was lovingly cared for by the doctors, nurses, aides, kitchen staff, and housekeeping staff.
Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made her comfortable and surrounded her with kindness Apong’s life was one of love, sacrifice, and beauty. She will be remembered as the heart of her family — a woman whose strength, humor, and unconditional love left a lasting mark on everyone she met.
