Frieda (Elsasser) Braun

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Frieda Braun. Mom passed peacefully, Friday, July 3, 2026 with her 4 children at her bedside.

Frieda was born on October 24, 1936 in Empress, Alberta and was raised on the family farm, where she developed her strong work ethic, faith and quiet determination that would stay with her throughout her life.

Mom and dad met when mom went on a train excursion she took at 20 years old to Calgary and she moved into the house next door to him. In her words, it was an instant attraction. She married, Leonard Braun on July 13, 1957 on the family farm and followed him to several small towns throughout Saskatchewan where dad was employed by The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool.

They welcomed 5 Children, Wayne, born in 1958, who died 7 days later, Gladys,Joyce, Gerald and Janet.

Their brief time together was happy, hard working and adventurous. Mom was a top notch hired hand for dad, helping him load box cars and working several jobs throughout their marriage.

She leaves to cherish her 4 children : Gladys (Lyle Leipert, passed), Joyce (Daniel Trautwein), Gerald and Janet (Dale Sturm).

Her 7 loving Grandchildren, and 15 great Grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.

Grandsons: Gregory (Amanda) Leipert, Aaron (Brittney) Leipert great grandchildren: Ryker, Rhya, Aidan and Eberley Leipert.

Granddaughters: Sherri (Kevin) Guenther-Trautwein, great grandchildren: Arthur and Simone, Rachelle (Justin) Regier, great grandchildren: Emmett, Rhett and Rustyn, Deanna (Chris) Neufeld, great grandchildren: Owen and Sam, Jessie(Derek) Ruckaber, great grandchildren: Colby and Kaley and Jacie (Dustin) Klassen, great grandchildren: Mila and Ember.

She is also survived by 1 brother, Harold Elsasser, 1 sister, Esther Nagel and 1 sister-in-law, Sandra Elsasser as well as numerous nieces and nephews who have often referred to her as their favorite aunt.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Braun, in 1975, who passed away in a tragic accident, 1 son Wayne , 7 days old in 1958, and the unexpected passing of her son-in-law, Lyle Leipert in 2013.

Her parents, George and Christina Elsasser, 1 sister, Martha Nagel, 3 Brothers, Paul Elsasser, Harvey Elsasser, Alfred Elsasser , 2 Sister-in-laws, Carole Elsasser, and Florence Elsasser. Her in-laws, Jacob and Helena Braun, brother-in-laws Edward Braun and Peter Neufeld, as well as sister-in-laws, Sadie Braun and Helen Neufeld.

Mom worked hard throughout her life, being a widow at the young age of 38, holding down several jobs sometimes more than one at a time. She was a quiet exceptionally strong woman who didn’t really say much, preferring to listen, but when she spoke out, you listened. She was a people person, a social butterfly and could be very blunt, you were never left in doubt when she had something to say.

Her passions were music, all kinds of music, especially gospel, traveling, she went on several cruises and gardening, her four o’clocks were legendary. She also enjoyed crocheting, was an exceptional cook, but her greatest joy was her children and then her grandchildren and great grandchildren 

She was often seen siting on the floor playing with them and laughing from the sheer joy of all the love surrounding her.

Mom was deeply loved by all who knew her. The last 6 years of her life were difficult, losing her mobility and speech. However her children remained at her side through it all, deeply devoted to her and will mourn her passing for the rest of their lives.

We would like to extend our gratitude and special thanks to Leader LTC staff and nurses for the care given to our mother in the last 6 years. Your kindness and gentle touch will always be remembered.

Rest in peace mom, you have earned it and we will see you again in glory land.
