Elizabeth Honeker Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Helen Honeker

It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth (Betty) Helen Honeker announce her peaceful passing on January 26, 2021 at the age of 90 years.

Betty will be remembered for her kind and giving heart.  She was always quick to set another place at the table for anyone fortunate enough to enjoy her delicious meals.  Faith, family and friends were very important to her and she was always finding ways to give to others.  She enjoyed caring for animals, gardening and working outdoors.  There was never an empty flowerpot around the house.

Betty was born in Kerrobert, Sk. and grew up in the Luseland area, where she was baptized on January 1, 1931 and confirmed on April 14, 1946. She completed secretarial training in Edmonton where she worked at a machine company before returning home and working at a lawyer's office and butcher shop.  Following her father's stroke, she moved home to help on the farm.  She was never afraid of hard work and was quick to lend a hand where needed.

On June 20, 1958, Betty married Arthur William Honeker.  They spent many happy years living on the Honeker family farm SW of Luseland, raising their 5 children.   Her son still currently lives and farms there.  She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

Betty will always be remembered for her cooking, especially her beef stew, vegetable soup, caramel pudding and all the canning of fruit she did every year.  Other extended family members have shared their memories of her generosity whenever they were fortunate to visit.  Betty's ability to plan and organize always surpassed expectations, as she always had her notebook out with all her lists, whether it was planning for the many camping trips with 5 kids or planning for her children's weddings.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, Art and her son, Roger.  She leaves to mourn her daughter Sheila Honeker (Cassia), son Lyle & April Honeker (Ashley, Lexie, Dylan, Rylie), daughter Marilyn & Wilbur Hueser (Candace & Geoff Zerr and great grand daughter Sawyer, Nicole, Jennifer & Michael), daughter Maureen & Dewight Walz (Sam, Kara, Ben), daughter in law Shannon & Jim Schemenauer (Brody and Alexandra), and brother Alvin Bekemeier.

Due to COVID restrictions, there will be a private family service for Betty. Friends may watch a livestream of the service on her daughter "Maureen Honeker-Walz" Facebook page at 2:00 pm Monday, February 1, 2021.  There is a link below.
