Elaine Clarke Obituary

After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Elaine Mae Clarke passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 17, 2020 at the age of 71. She leaves behind her husband, Maynard Clarke; their sons Chris (Robin) and Jay (Kim) Clarke; her beloved grandchildren Devon, Taylor and Mikayla; and her brother Tom (Ricki) Jackson.

Elaine was born on April 6, 1948 in Tisdale Saskatchewan to father Edward John Jackson and mother Ferne Elaine Jackson (Smith), both of who predeceased her in 2005 & 2003. In 1952 they completed their family with the addition of her younger brother, Tom. She was raised on the family farm just outside town from birth to her high school graduation in 1966. That same year she entered nurse’s training in Saskatoon, completing her training in 1969. She went on to work at City Hospital for 2 more years before leaving in 1971.

Elaine married Maynard Clarke on October 30, 1971, moving to Eston, Saskatchewan shortly thereafter. Together they lived for brief period within town before moving out to their farm in 1972. She quickly took on a position at Eston Union Hospital in 1971 as a nurse until the birth of their first son Jay in 1978 with their younger son Chris following in 1982. While she loved her job as a full-time nurse, in fall 1979 she was offered the position of Nurse/Medical Bookkeeper for Dr. Stewart Holmes at the Eston Clinic. It was a title that she would hold the remainder of her working years until 2001 when she retired from work outside the farm to focus on keeping the home fires burning.

She had many passions in life besides her family. An avid reader and gardener, music and poetry. Elaine loved people and the mysteries of life, her humor and perspective was eagerly shared with those closest to her. Her love for the Eston Riverside Park and the memories from her many years there were cherished her lifetime through. It was there, among the trees beside the water that she was most at peace.

Her family would especially like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Eston Health Center & Lodge for her wonderful care in her last days. Their dedication, bedside manner and kind words did so much to help us through this difficult time and Elaine herself would be proud. We would also like to ask that in lieu of flowers/cards, please make a donation to the Eston Caring Hands Room at the Eston Lodge to pay forward to other families that find themselves in a time of need like we were. Our thanks is never enough.

Due to circumstance, a graveside funeral will come at a later date.
