Linda Parnitsky Obituary

Linda Marie (Schan) Parnitsky passed away in the early morning of February 18, 2019 at her home in  Long Term Care at the Kerrobert Integrated Health Centre.  She was 71 years old.

Linda was born on November 28, 1947 to Andrew and Anna (Froehlich) Schan at the Kerrobert Union Hospital.  She was the 12th (just before her twin sister, Lorraine) of 14 children.  Her youth was spent attending school in Kerrobert, going to church with her family, working on the farm, cheering on her sisters in the sports they played, and being a good friend to many.

Linda moved to Edmonton to attend hairdressing school and it was there that she married Don Parnitsky, the love of her life, on February 24, 1969.  The two moved from Edmonton to Kerrobert in 1972 and soon after they moved out to Linda’s family farm, five miles north of Kerrobert, where they raised their four children.  After Don’s death in 2004 Linda moved to the Hillside Lodge in Kerrobert.  As her illness progressed, the care she required increased so she left Hillside and moved into the Pioneer Haven in 2012, then the Buena Vista in 2014, and finally, into the Kerrobert Integrated Health Centre when it opened in 2015.

In her lifetime, Linda was a wife and mother, a hairdresser and a homemaker, and just before being diagnosed with MS in 1989, she worked as a cook and care aide at the Buena Vista Lodge in Kerrobert where she lovingly cared for the residents and often did their hair.

Linda was an excellent cook and loved to have family and friends over for supper.  She was also an avid baker and when their many friends would stop for coffee, she always had something delicious to share with them.  She was known for being a wonderful story teller, and a beautiful dancer.  Her easy laugh and good sense of fun made her a welcome addition to any gathering.

She is survived by her children: Allan Parnitsky (Randi-Lee, Jamie, Alex and Andrew Parnitsky), Carla (Cecil) Buechler (Drake, Ahna and Cole), Gerri (Darren) Walz (Jordyn, Jayel, Jaxon), Chris (Janelle) Parnitsky (Kaleb and Josiane); sisters Marion Heidt, Georgina Schwab, Betty Huck, beloved twin Lorraine Hansen, and Margie Snell; brothers Mark Schan and Ernie Schan; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Don Parnitsky; her parents, Andrew and Annie Schan; her sisters Hilda Caldwell, Beatrice Strangways, Florence Koble; brothers: Stephen (infant), Daniel Schan and Jerry Schan; her mother- and father-in-law, Veronica (German) and Alexander Parnitsky, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Funeral Vigil will be held Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 pm at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Kerrobert, with the Memorial Mass in the same location on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 11 am.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kerrobert Health Centre Long Term Care, c/o KLD Wellness Foundation at Box 730, Kerrobert, SK, S0L 1R0.
