Jerry died rather suddenly at age 77, yet peacefully at home, surrounded by those he loved most – his cherished wife and children. Jerry took care of all of us – fixing everything from the town swimming pool and skating rink to farm equipment and toys. He was an avid reader and could talk to anyone about anything. With twinkling eyes and a soft chuckle, he wasn’t shy about sharing his many opinions. Jerry’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to over 43 years as a successful businessman; his belief in service led to 37 collective years as fire fighter, Fire Chief, councilman and Mayor. In 1980, at great peril to his own life, Jerry saved the life of a little boy. For this, he was awarded the highest honor a civilian can earn, the Canadian Medal of Bravery. Over the years, at his machine shop, Jerry employed many welders, machinists and apprentices along with farmers who needed winter work. After retiring, that generosity came full circle as Jerry spent the last six years working on his friend’s (and previous employee’s) honey farm. Jerry loved fishing with his sons, barbecuing for friends and family, spending his winters with his wife in Arizona, working on his friend’s honey farm, teasing his grandchildren, and engaging in lively political conversation with his daughter. Jerry was born and raised in Fulda, Sask. He is predeceased by his daughter Kathleen Rose, who died in 1967 at age two, parents Bill and Cornelia, sister Luella Litz, brother Melvin, parents-inlaw Matthew and Nora Forster, brothers-in-law Jim Litz, Art Teiber, Bernard Harding, sister-in-law Rosemary Harding, nephews Grant Teiber, Devon Wagner and Jeffrey Harding. Left to cherish Jerry’s memory are his loving wife of 56 years Bonnie, sons Rick (Cynthia, Kristopher, Krista), Gary (Suzy, Erich, Danyka, Tatton, Colebryn, Quinlan), Greg (Naren, Rilyn, Kiera), daughter Mary Lou (Brian, Andrew), brother Roy (Pat) Jurgens, sisters-in-law Cecelia Jurgens, Betty Teiber, Ellenore (Wes) Morrow, Terry (Garry) Wagner, brothers-in-law Bud (Karen) Forster, Don (Kathy) Forster, and Tom (Shannon) Forster, along with many loving nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. In lieu of flowers, please donate to causes close to the family’s heart — Cystic Fibrosis or Type 1 Diabetes research. Jerry’s gentle humor, Intelligence and steadfast loyalty will be deeply missed.
