Freda (Hadland) Hungerford

In loving memory of Freda Hungerford who passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 86 years.

Beloved wife of the late Norval and mother of Dean (Deanna), Lisa, & Bryce, and grandmother of Scott.

A Funeral Service for Freda will be held Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Andrew's United Church, Eston, SK with Reverend Barb MacNaughton officiating. Interment to follow at the Eston Cemetery.

Freda R. Hungerford

July 18, 1932 - November 6, 2018

Freda was born in Weldon, SK and spent her youth on the family farm with her loving parents (Ole and Rosalia Hadland), three brothers (Herman, Rolf and Arnold) and two sisters (Olga and Irma). Freda completed a secretarial course and in her early twenties she transferred to Eston, SK as a Co-op employee. She clerked at the local store for a time until she married Norval in April of 1958; together they worked the family farm and began raising a family in 1960.

Freda was a wonderful mother who consistently put her children and family first. She enjoyed listening to music and dancing; a favorite memory is holding hands and dancing around the kitchen. She loved to play Canasta, Hearts, Cribbage, and Scrabble as well as many arts and crafts she kept herself busy with over the years. Freda was also a very active member of The Eastern Star and enjoyed the comradery of the organization.

The travel bug was also present in Freda. She treasured her trips to Hawaii, Norway and Alaska. She kept travel journals, pamphlets, maps, and many photos to remind her of her travels as well as the many road trips she took with Norval all around North America.

Freda liked to be busy and enjoyed spending time outside – in the summer she always had a vegetable garden and she loved her flowers & the hummingbirds; in the winter she liked to cross-country ski and in her later years she walked every morning. Freda was also a wonderful baker and found it rather therapeutic; one of her favorite pastimes was browsing through recipe books and trying new things. Her compassion, thoughtfulness and unconditional love will be remembered always. She will be dearly missed.

Freda is predeceased by her husband of 58 years Norval Hungerford (Sept 14, 2016) as well as her parents (Ole & Rosalia), brothers (Herman, Rolf & Arnold) and sisters (Olga & Irma). She is survived by her daughter Lisa and sons Bryce (Caylee) and Dean (Deanna & son Scott).

Freda will be laid to rest in the Eston Cemetery on Friday November 9, 2018.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, thank you.
