Evelyn (Evie) Godfrey Obituary

In loving memory of Evelyn (Evie) Godfrey who passed away on Friday, October 26th 2018 at the age of 96 years.

Beloved wife of the Late Fredrick Godfrey, sister-in-law to Dorothy McNichol, and aunt of Doug, Sandra, Rick, & Lynda.

A memorial service will be held for Evie on Saturday, November 3rd 2018 at 1:30 p.m. from the Kerrobert United Church, Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, with Verna Kocski officiating. interment will follow in the Kerrobert Cemetery.

Evelyn “Evie” Lenore Godfrey (nee McNichol)

Evelyn Lenore McNichol was born on January 15, 1922 and passed away peacefully at the Long-Term Care Centre in Kerrobert, Sask. on October 26, 2018 at the age of 96.  Evelyn was the last remaining descendant from her generation.  The McNichol’s were all very proud of their Scottish heritage tracing back to before the 17th century.  The motto beneath the Clan crest reads "Remember but look ahead". 

She was predeceased by her husband Fred Godfrey (1984) and children William Douglas “Bill” (1984) and John Daniel “Dan” (1992); by her parents Louis and Lahlia McNichol; by her six (6) siblings Ethel (Joe) Tien; Maude (Arnold) Menzies & their sons, Bob and Jack & daughter, Lois; Pat (Vic) Price & their daughter, Judi; David McNichol; Ede (Ingie) Borgford; and Mac McNichol.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy McNichol of Kerrobert Sask. and many nieces/nephews of her siblings as well as their children from: the Tien family - Sylvia, Carol & David; the Menzies family - David, the Price family – Joan, Linda & Graham; the Adam/Borgford family – Ellen, Jim, Don & Fran; and the McNichol family - Doug, Sandra, Rick & Lynda.

Evelyn was born in Nokomis, Saskatchewan and raised on the farm in the Richfarms District. She had a strong love for dogs and cats all her life. She joined the Forces during World War II and served in the Canteen at Dafoe, Sask.  She met and married her husband Fred during the war and later adopted two boys, Bill and Dan.  They all lived in Thunder Bay until Fred, Bill and Dan passed away then Evie moved back to the prairies to be with her siblings.  She lived in Semans, Sask., then the Earl Grey Care Home and finally Kerrobert Sask. where she requested to be buried beside her brother Mac.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 3, 2018 at the Kerrobert United Church beautifully officiated by Licensed Lay Worship Leader Verna Kocski. The Eulogy was given by Nieces Sandra Smith and Lynda Friesen.  Scripture readers were Niece Carol Phelan and Sister-in-law Dorothy McNichol.  Urn Bearers were Nephews Rick and Doug McNichol.  Guard of Honour and Honourary Urn Bearers were Kerrobert Legion, Branch #88 Comrades Stan Pitura and Joe Dubielewicz. Ushers were Great-Nephews Garret Smith and Dave Kerr.  Niece Ellen Adam and Great Niece Laurie Kerr also attended the service.  The Legion Tribute was performed privately for Interment in the Kerrobert Cemetery.
