Dena Scheidt Obituary

DENA MARIE SCHEIDT

At the age of 91, Dena passed away peacefully on August 9, 2019 at the City Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Dena was born on January 29, 1928 in Kerrobert to William and Anna Heidt. She lived the majority of her life around Luseland with a short stay in Manitoba during her youth. After graduating from high school, Dena attended teacher’s college in Saskatoon and once obtaining her degree, taught at two country schools with students ranging from grades 1 through 10. Dena was known for playing the banjo in her family’s band that performed at many community dances over the years.

In 1950, Dena married her soul mate Norman Scheidt and together they settled down on the family farm 14 miles west of Luseland, where they focused on their mixed farming operations and raising their four daughters. Dena loved to bake and the whole community would agree that her pies and cinnamon rolls were a must to have. Dena had a special talent for sewing and crafting and would often be found working on her latest project like making matching dresses for girls. Though she loved to knit and crochet, her real passion was for hardanger and quilting. Her beautiful products will continue to be cherished by family members for years to come. Dena was also a prevalent member of the local Lutheran church and gave back to her community serving as treasurer of the local Ladies Aide and Embroidery Guild.  In her spare time, she loved playing bingo and winning at cards. She was always up for a crib match at any time, any place.

In their later years, Dena and Norman moved from the farm into Luseland and in April 1991 sold their equipment and officially retired.  In retirement, Dena and Norman became very proud members of North Battlefield chapter of the Good Sam Club, traveling through the United States and Canada with their fifth wheel in tow. In 2005 they downsized further moving to a condo in Unity and eventually, to Saskatoon in 2017.

Dena was predeceased by her parents William & Anna Heidt, her sisters Bertha, Irene, and Audrey, her brother Walter, and her grandson Cordell.  She is survived by her husband Norman, daughters Norma Jean (Dan) Ripper, Doreen (Gary) Scheidt, Donna (Loran) Forer, and Judy (Gord) Classen as well as her 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dena’s funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday August 15, 2019 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Luseland, Saskatchewan. The service will be followed by an interment at Luseland Cemetery and a lunch at the church hall.
