“A Life Well Lived”
On January 19, 2020 Alma Briggs Hartsook (nee Hoiland) passed away surrounded by her loving daughters. She made it to her 93rd birthday. Alma was born in a "deep freeze" on January 17th, 1927 near Brock, Saskatchewan. Mom always said that after she was born her mother got up and made the Doctor coffee. She grew up in a loving Norwegian community near Brock.
She received her teaching certificate and taught in one room schools as far north as Fort St. John, BC, Porcupine Plain, SK, as well as south of Eston, SK. She met Bill Briggs in Rosetown and they were married in 1954. They moved to Eston, SK where they raised their 5 daughters; Joanne (Bud), Wilma (Darcy), Alana (Gary), Michelle, Gina (Greg). She was also blessed with six grandsons and six great-grandchildren. Years later Alma met, and married Cecil Hartsook and she happily welcomed Cecil's children, Larry (Lorraine), Glenn (Maureen), Nancy (Garry), Brenda (Jim), Jim (Stacey) into their blended family.
Alma had a beautiful, kind-hearted soul. She was a self-taught musician and enjoyed entertaining at dances, functions, and many family get togethers. She saw the good in everyone. Her sunny disposition helped her through life’s challenges with grace. She was a proud hardworking Saskatchewan prairie woman. We will miss her dearly.
Memorial service to be held Saturday January 25th, 2020 at 2:00pm at the St. Andrew’s United Church in Eston, ashes will be spread at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to the Eston Riverside Regional Park.
