Violet "Vi" Proudlove

Violet Mildred Proudlove (age 96) of Eston, Saskatchewan passed away on May 8, 2017 at the Meadows Long Term Care Facility in Swift Current.  On May 21, 1920 Vi was born to Albert and Harriet Beck of Islay, Alberta.  She was number 2 of the magnificent 7.

Vi joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division where she was stationed at Gander, Newfoundland.  It was a proud day for her when she received her Corporal stripes.  In Gander, she met a good-looking Air Force Sergeant named Lloyd Proudlove.  They were married in Islay on June 19, 1946. Violet and Lloyd made their life farming at Eston. After 4 years of marriage, their son Lyle was born and 4 years later their daughter Valerie was born.

Violet was a hard-working devoted farm wife.  Along with driving the combine every harvest, she delivered many meals to the field.  She was a renowned baker; everyone loved her tarts and pies.  Every week she would make delicious cherry, apple and peach pies and deliver them to Spicer’s Restaurant at Netherhill, Saskatchewan.

Vi and Lloyd sold their farm in 1972 and moved into Eston.  She loved living in town and got a job at the Eston Flower Shop.   It was her dream job.   She placed each flower with thought creating the perfect arrangement.

Vi courageously battled cancer when she was in her early 70s and managed to return to good health.

Vi and Lloyd enjoyed their travels to Hawaii, Disneyland, Victoria and many bus trips into the US.  Vi’s trip of a lifetime was when she accompanied her parents to London, England.  Vi and Lloyd celebrated a loving 61 years together.  Lloyd passed away in 2007.  Four years later Vi joined her daughter and family in Swift Current.  She lived in Herbert until she fell and broke her hip.  After that, she moved into the Palliser in Swift Current.   She loved going out for coffee and going to the mall to shop.  Her favourite pastimes were working on her array of puzzles and playing cards with the family.

Vi is survived by her children; Lyle Proudlove, and Valerie (Lyndon) Raynard. Grandchildren Tina (Lyle) Hanch, Troy Proudlove, Jena Proudlove, Marc Proudlove, Carrie (Cam) Frase, David (Tricia) Raynard.  Great-Grandchildren Madelinn and Oscar Hanch, Carter and Keandra Frase, Jonathan, Gabrielle and Kate-Lynn Raynard.  Vi was predeceased by her parents Albert and Harriet Beck, husband Lloyd, brothers Howard (Eileen) Beck, Clifford (Marie) Beck, Melvin (Mable) Beck, sisters Vivian (Wayne) Crowder, Edna (Dalt) Torrance. Brother-in-law Alfred Proudlove and sister-in-law Marion (Doug) Kent.  Ruby, Vi’s older sister, is still living in Westlock, Alberta, and Vi’s sister-in-law Betsy Proudlove, who is living in the Eatonia Oasis Living Center in Eatonia, Saskatchewan.   We knew Vi was ready to go home to her heavenly Father when she was trying so hard to sing some of her favourite hymns with tears running down her cheeks - a special moment in time.  We love you Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma.
