SHEILA MAY DESCHNER

October 1, 1934 ~ October 30, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old


It is with great sadness that the family of Sheila Deschner announces her passing in Kerrobert, SK on Monday, October 30, 2017 at the age of 83 years.

Sheila was born on October 1, 1934 in Rose Valley, SK to Ralph and Evelyn Hamel, the eldest of nine children.  Sheila was raised on a farm in the district of Scrip.  She left home in 1950 to go to school in Rose Valley where she worked part time in the local telephone office.  She moved to Wadena in 1952 where she graduated from high school and then started working in the Wadena Hospital.  In the fall of 1954 Sheila moved to Dodsland to work in the Dodsland Hospital as a nurse’s aid.  She met Mel in early October at one of the many dances held in the area.  Mel and Sheila were married in June of 1955.  They worked incredibly hard to raise their eight children on the farm but never complained about the hardships they endured.  Sheila stayed on the farm for another 20 years after Mel passed away in 1993, moving into Dodsland in 2013.

Sheila enjoyed baking, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting, bowling, curling, and ball.   Sheila was very active in the church over the years as she read for over 30 years, taught catechism and was in every position on the CWL executive multiple times.

Sheila’s pride and joy was her family who will miss the time each of them spent with her.

Sheila will be dearly missed by her seven children, Terry (Maureen) Deschner, Bernard (Tara) Deschner, Tracey (Gordon) Schneider, Colette Switzer, Brian (Deanna) Deschner, Arnold (Tracey) Deschner, Trina (Dan) MacDonald, and her daughter-in-law Laura Deschner.  “Cookie Grandma”will also be dearly missed by her twenty two grandchildren and six great grandchildren, Brennon (Natasha) Deschner (Peyton and Jordyn), Jared (Jill)  Deschner, Allyson (Brian) Campbell (Natalie and Zoey), Donovan (Tammy) Deschner, Ryan Switzer, Brianne (Josh) Zwambag (Kaelin and Vaughn), Tyler Deschner, Jason Schneider, Janelle (Chad) Switzer, Matthew (Steffanie) Schneider, Bailey (Kyle) Sattler, Morgan (Chris) Deschner, Brittney Deschner, Nicole (Mason) Deschner, Blair (Taysha) MacDonald, Skylar (Patrick) Deschner, Crystal MacDonald, Adrianah Switzer, Darien Deschner, Collier Deschner, Maryn Deschner, and Hollis Deschner as well as special nephews Richard Graham and Alan Deschner.

Sheila is also survived by her two sisters Lucy Knorr and Moira Trevalean and four brothers Dave (Flo) Hamel, Ron (Diane) Hamel, Royal (Linda) Hamel, and Alvin (Susan) Hamel as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Sheila was pre-deceased by her husband Mel in 1993, her son Tim in 2014, her parents Ralph and Evelyn Hamel, brothers Don Hamel and Roger Hamel.

 

A funeral Mass will be held for Sheila on Friday, November 3rd 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from Our Lady Of Grace Catholic Church, in Dodsland, Saskatchewan with Rev. Fr. Dan Yazinski as Celebrant. interment will follow in the Dodsland Cemetery.
