Rodney Glen Krein

May 5, 1960 ~ September 11, 2017 (age 57) 57 Years Old

Rodney Glen Krein of Leader, SK passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2017 with his loving wife by his side.

Rod was born in Hodgeville, SK on May 5, 1960.  He spent most of his childhood growing up in Prince Albert, SK and graduated from Carlton Comprehensive High School in 1979.  On July 31, 1982 he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life.  Together they welcomed three children and nine grandchildren.

As a young adult Rod spent his time playing slo-pitch and scuba diving in the northern Saskatchewan lakes with his brother-in-law, Jim.  One of his favorite places to be was at his childhood cabin at Emma Lake.  Rod and Loreen always enjoyed family camping and fishing trips and were able to get away for some sunny winter vacations.

As much as Rod enjoyed the out doors he enjoyed the couch and some good TV even more.  It was a good day when he could find a good western or an episode of The Big Bang Theory.  Rod often talked often and fondly about his first job working for Willie Baessler at Central Sausage and Meats.  He definitely considered it a highlight of his lifetime.

During his many years spent working for Motorways Trucking, he held various positions from dispatcher to manager in The Pas, MB and Estevan, SK.  Many great memories and friendships were made during those years.  Rod spent some time at Percy H. Davis Custom Brokers, pipefitting various jobs throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta and hauling propane for LoCost Propane out of Lethbridge, AB before he found his crew.  In 2013, he began working for the town of Leader and loved every minute of it.  He made some great friends and memories right up until he was no longer able to work.  Even after, he was always thrilled when his co-workers always continued to include him and visit him.

In 2010, Rod was diagnosed with cancer and he fought a hard, positive battle until the very end.  He will be forever missed by his wife of 35 years, Loreen, their daughters Trina (James) and Shawna (Brad).  His grandchildren Kayden, Karter, Kaiden, Parker, Jaxson, Avery, Jaycee, Tanner and Jaxon.  His parents Harvey and Marjory Krein of Swift Current, SK, brother Gary Krein of Medicine Hat, AB and sister Donna (Kelly) Stevens of Lucien Lake, SK.  His brothers and sisters-in law – Les (Deb) Sorenson, Pat (Gordie) Gibb, Donna (Jim) Starner, Sid (Linda) Sorenson, Leanne (Brent Davis) Vansil and numerous nieces, nephew, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was predeceased by his son Mike in August 2013, nieces Stacey and Kim and his Mother and Father in-law, Fred and Florence Sorenson and brother-in-law, Sam.

The interment will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Leader Cemetery.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  At Rod’s request, a Celebration of His Life will be held at Rod and Loreen’s home (524 – 1st Street West) immediately following the interment.
