Muriel (Stevens) Gross

In loving memory of Muriel Gross who passed away on Friday, May 26th 2017 at the age of 91 years.

Muriel is the beloved mother of Greg (Brenda), Sharon, Dwight (Jennifer), Ian, the late Rodney (Lyndee), and the late Kim (Jan).

There will be a private memorial service for Muriel at a later date.

On May 26th Mom passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Margaret Stevens, sister Joyce Klarenbach, brother John Stevens and sons Rodney and Kim. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister in-law Mary Stevens, daughter Sharon, sons – Ian, Greg (Brenda) and boys Steven (Meagan), Ryan (Jess) and Lee (Megan), and Dwight (Jennifer) and their sons Drew, Jayden   (Rylee), Kim’s wife Jan Weiten, Rodney’s wife Lyndee and their daughters Kally (Andrew) and Stephanie (Jason) and her great grandchildren Luke and Emily.

Muriel was born in Eatonia, Sask. and lived on the farm near LaPorte. She took her nurses training at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. She was actively involved on the farm south of Eston for many years. In her later years, she spent the winters in Winfield, B.C. and her summers at her beloved cabin at the park south of Eston.

Her two passions in life were playing cards and nature. One reason she moved to Winfield is that area is known as the “Bridge” capital of the world. Mom played Bridge up to five times a week and was known as “No Trump Muriel” by the players in the Kelowna area. Mom believed that nature and the environment were of the utmost importance. She would sit in her chair by the window in her cabin and she knew all the species of birds by sight and by sound. Mom was a very independent woman who was up to any challenge. She travelled around the world on a freighter with her sister, Joyce. She was never afraid to voice her opinion even if it was controversial. You may not have agreed with her but you could never question her remarkable intelligence.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Manor in Kindersley for taking such good care of mom in her final two years. We would  like to thank Pat Layton, for being a wonderful friend, Canasta player, and for having the occasional Caesar with Muriel. The family would also like to extend our appreciation to Gail Milton for being such a wonderful friend and neighbor.

As per Muriel’s wishes there will no ceremony but the family will be having a celebration of her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eston Riverside Regional Park.
