Mary Jacowishen

February 19, 1920 ~ May 27, 2017 (age 97) 97 Years Old


It is with profound sadness that the family of Mary Jacowishen (Tetarenko) announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, May 27, 2017 in Calgary, AB.

Mary was born to Andrew and Alexandra Tetarenko in the Cando, SK district on February 19, 1920.  She married Nick Jacowishen on September 7, 1943 the love of her life.  She was predeceased by Nick in 2011 and missed him every single day.  She is now with Nick walking through the roses hand in hand.

Mary led a very busy life, firstly being the wife of a farmer and then in her late 30s returning to finish her High School and attend Teachers College.  She taught in the Kindersley district for over 25 years loving every minute.  When she retired from teaching she became a figure skating judge and she and Nick spent many weekends travelling all over Saskatchewan to judge various levels of skating. 

Mary always found time for many volunteer positions and won several awards throughout the Province and Canada for work done.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving family, son Andrew (Bessie) Jacowishen of Brooks AB, daughter Jewel (Pat) McIlhargey of Calgary AB; Grandchildren Logan (Misty) Jacowishen of Rocky Mountain House AB, Rayel (Chad) Janke of Brooks AB, Nicholas McIlhargey (Angela Barreto) of Calgary AB, Tekla McIlhargey of Calgary AB, Simon McIlhargey (Matthew Bown) of Halifax NS, Bryan (Loriann) Bowman of Calgary AB, Drew (Laura) Bowman of Lashburn SK, and Miles Bowman (Jason Schmidt) of Port Hope ON; Great-grandchildren, Lyam Jacowishen, Ryder Janke, James-Marley McIlhargey-Heron, Alexandra and Erik Bowman, Ryan, Jeffrey and Wade Bowman, as well as her precious best friend Linda Bowman.

Mary was predeceased by all her siblings and their spouses.

Those wishing to pay their respects, may do so on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church (807- 3rd Street West), Kindersley SK.

In living memory of Mary, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park, Calgary AB.
