Obituary from the Eston Press

Lillian Josephine Mohan (nee Hallahan) passed away peacefully at the Eston Jubilee Lodge in Eston, Saskatchewan, on January 17, 2017, one day short of her 93rd Birthday.

Lillian was born on January 19, 1924, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Thomas and Hannah (Barry) Hallahan. She attended Bisley and Plato Schools and upon graduation she attended Normal School in Moose Jaw and received her Teaching Certificate. She taught at Gravelridge and Betchtel Schools.

On July 18, 1945, she was married to Owen Dennis Mohan and they enjoyed 38 years together. Sadly Owen passed away in 1983. Lill retired to Eston in 1990 and moved to the Jubilee Lodge on September 9, 2010 where she remained until her passing.

Together they raised eight children on the farm which provided years of challenges and very fond memories that a large Irish Catholic family can encounter and the children continue to cherish today . She was known for her "Irish wit" and could bring a smile to any conversation she was involved in. She was an active member of the Plato Community and a lifetime member of the Plato CWL. Among her many other interests she loved playing cards and was an enthusiastic ball player and curler. For many years she was a huge fan and supported her children's sporting events and activities. She never lost her love of curling and watched "all" the Briers and Scotties on television until the time of her passing. She cared for her mother Hannah in her later years while continuing to provide for her family on the farm. She spent many summers with family and friends at Clearwater Lake as well as maintaining a close relationship with her siblings.

She was well travelled to places like Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, New York City, Hawaii, Florida, Prince Edward Island but especially enjoyed her trip to Ireland with her sisters to meet relatives and to see where her parents were born and raised.

The family wishes to extend our most sincere appreciation for the loving kindness extended to mom during her 6 year stay at the Lodge. Your compassion and thoughtfulness went a long way to making moms stay with you enjoyable. She thought the world of all those women who cooked, cleaned and cared for her and wondered why they were so nice to her. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Lill was predeceased by her husband Owen, her parents Thomas and Hannah, her 2 sisters Eileen Peterson, Kathleen Storry, 4 brothers, Robert, James, Maurice and Glen.  She is survived by her 8 children and their families; Vickie (Buddy) Valentine and her children, Tamie, Lisa and Dana; Neil (Linda), Allyn; Joe (Darlene) and their children Jaime, Justin, Darla and Devin; Gary (Dawn) and their children Owen, Ethan and Ava; Kathy (Harvey) and their children Gina, Melissa, Jordan and Mitchell; Glen (Debra) and their children Steven, Stephanie and Sara and Perry (Sherry) and his children Joshua, Carly, Laura and her children Jenna and Lauren. She was also blessed with 18 great grand children.

Funeral services will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eston, Saskatchewan, on January 24, at 1:00 p.m. The Prayer Service will be on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Internment to follow at the Plato Cemetery, following lunch in the basement at the Sacred Heart Church.
