Frank Colby
November 10, 1963 – December 22, 2017
It is with profound shock and sadness that the family and friends of FRANK CHARLES COLBY, late of Kindersley, SK, announce his unexpected passing on Friday, December 22nd, 2017, at the age of 54 years. Frank was born in Dodsland, SK, the second son of Janetta (Jean) and Charles Colby along with older brother Brian. His early years were spent on the family farm in west central Saskatchewan until his father’s tragic accidental passing when he was 5 years old. After completing high school, he settled in the Town of Kindersley in the early eighties. In his younger years, Frank enjoyed snowmobiling and softball, but his pride and joy was his 1978 Trans Am with a custom mural on each side. Frank proved to have an exceptional mind for numbers, which translated to an uncanny ability to recall things like parts numbers off the top of his head, and proved to be an asset in every job he ever had. Frank married the love of his life, Melanie Olson, in a summer wedding on August 25th, 1990, adopting her two sons, Tyler and Chance Payne. His son and best buddy, Evan Frank, was born in the spring of 1992. The family was completed in the fall of 1995, with the arrival of daughter Brynn, the first female Colby born in 79 years. She was his princess. When Frank married Melanie, he always felt and said that “in her, he found everything that he ever wanted. Parents that loved him as their own, brothers and sisters, children, nieces and nephews, and that he finally knew how it felt to have a family”. Frank’s entire world revolved around Melanie and their children, he worked tirelessly to build and support their lives together. Frank was always of service to his community, working as volunteer firefighter Number 30 from 1996-2009. Firefighting was a pursuit that he thoroughly enjoyed and found incredibly rewarding. Frank passed away at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his beloved wife, Melanie, children Tyler (Valerie), Chance (Tegan), Evan, Brynn and his adored grandchildren Veronica, Harrison and Caitlyn to honor his memory. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Brian (Deb), brothers and sisters in-laws, nieces, nephews and countless friends. Frank is predeceased by his father, Charles, mother, Janetta (Jean), his parents-in-law Ted and Kathleen Olson, and nephew, Jeffrey Olson. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Kindersley Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital. Their outstanding efforts allowed time for Frank’s family to gather, and be by his side. A service celebrating Frank will be held on Thursday December 28th, 2017 at 2:00pm at the Kindersley Inn, with Tyler Payne and Evan Colby officiating. Interment of ashes at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Frank to the Kindersley Fire Department c/o Prairie Rose Floral & Gift, 400 Main St. Kindersley. “Go Habs Go!”
